A neck hump, also known as a buffalo hump or dowager’s hump, is a condition where there is a noticeable protrusion or rounding at the top of the back where the neck meets the spine. This can be due to various causes, including poor posture, osteoporosis, kyphosis, muscle knots, cysts, boils, and carbuncles. Sometimes, it may be a dorsocervical fat pad or a fat buildup between the shoulder blades. Certain medications for treating Cushing’s syndrome, as well as factors like steroid use, obesity, and genetics, can also contribute to the development of a neck hump.
